Our Mission

Backwater Legacies is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation and preservation of our hunting heritage through youth activities, events, and education. We proudly support tomorrow's hunter and truly believe that our focus on youth hunting and youth hunting events separates us from the rest of the field.

With the number of hunters gradually declining, we feel privileged to assist our future woodsman in his or her development and keep Americas hunting heritage alive and well for years to come. Below are just a couple of ways Backwater Legacies contributes to the development of youth hunting.

Free Youth Hunts

There’s nothing quite like the experience one gets from sharing a hunt with their child. It’s an exhilarating moment to watch a son or daughter take their first Buck or to observe their trembling knees as a gobbler rattles the woods on a cool spring morning. These memories are precious and we encourage you to share them with us!

Backwater Outlaws has helped several kids break into the sport of hunting. Our guides are extremely helpful and use a teaching approach for your child’s hunt.

Youth hunts have limited availability and are free to all children under the age of 17 with the purchase of an adult guided hunt. This way dad or mom can bring the young one along without a burden to their wallet for another seat in the blind or stand. Youth hunts do fill up rather quickly so be sure to book early and reserve a spot for your future hunter in the family.

Summer Hunting Retreat

Summer Hunting Retreats are five days and five nights of hunting, trapping and shooting classes specifically suited for our youth hunters. We will focus on the details and spend quality time covering a wide range of hunting topics, including camouflage, stalking, game identification, calling lessons, decoy strategies and regulations for a variety of game species. Kids will spend each morning covering a new species to hunt with applications taught in the field. Afternoons will be spent boating, swimming and fishing. Shooting and archery classes will be taught each evening by certified shooting instructors. This is an opportunity unlike any other offered for our youth hunters. Annual Hoosier Youth Hunting Clinic

Every year, Backwater Legacies presents it’s annual HOOSIER YOUTH HUNTING CLINIC for kids. The event is specifically designed to give kids a "Hands-On" seminar where they can learn a variety of hunting skills from the pros. This clinic incorporates many hunting sports such as Deer Hunting, Turkey Hunting, Waterfowl Hunting and much, much more.

All of this takes place in the field, not inside office walls or the classroom. We believe in order to truly understand and learn about hunting, you need to be where the hunt begins....."Outdoors"!

We have Prostaffers from many of our suppliers and sponsors to conduct seminars and classes covering many topics including but not limited to:

• Turkey Calling Lessons

• Use of Cover Scents and Attractants to Lure Deer

• Archery Seminars and Blood Tracking

• Waterfowl Calling Lessons

• Shooting Seminars

• Scouting Techniques for Whitetails

• Tree Stand Demonstrations and Safety

Many topics just like these and of course much much more!

As you can see this is quite an event for the kids. They get all of this not to mention top notch......DOOR PRIZES!!
